Soon after I could walk I was classic skiing. It first started when my family and I went out skiing together. We would ski by the biathlon range and watch the older kids shoot. This was very interesting to me and inspired me to one day be a biathlete. At age 10 I entered the cross country ski team, then one year later I joined biathlon. Each year I was getting more dedicated and deeper into the sport. When I made the provincial team in 2013 this brought to me a hole new level. At this point I was doing very well in my provincial races, earning 9 medals in the last 2 years. Then came my first nationals in 2015, my first race at this competition I got 4th (sprint race). I also received my first national gold medal on the relay race!
In 2013, I found out about the Northern Pacific Sport School Program in Prince George, my home town. I said to myself, this would be a great opportunity for me to become a better athlete. In my grade 10 year I was accepted into the program. The program has given me the ability to increase my skills such as: strength, fitness, nutrition, mental training, academic studies and pre-race preparation. The sports program at UNBC has played an instrumental part in the successes I have had as a biathlete and will continue to provide me with the necessary skills to take my sport to a higher level of competition.1 |
